Letterbook containing outgoing letters of Boston, Mass. merchant and ship owner Joseph Barrell, 1791-97. Most of the letters discuss financial debts, land purchases, the construction of his house (designed by Charles Bulfinch), and the death of friends, among other topics. Barrell was co-owner of the Ship Columbia, the first to circumnavigate the globe. He describes waiting for the ship to return from its second voyage, 1793; and requests creditors to wait for their payments.
